HOW DO PLANTS PREPARE THEIR FOOD
• The process by which plants make their food is known as photosynthesis.

Synthesis—putting together
• Plants prepare food by using water and carbon dioxide
in the presence of chlorophyll and sunlight.
• Water is absorbed by the roots of the plants and carried
through the stem and branches to the leaves.
• The stomata on the leaves take in carbon dioxide from the air.
• Chlorophyll absorbs sunlight falling on the leaves.
• The leaves then change carbon dioxide and water into a sugar called glucose.
