• After decades of sailors trying to reach the Indies,
with thousands of lives and dozens of vessels lost in
shipwrecks and attacks, Vasco da Gama landed
in Calicut on 20May 1498.
Vasco da Gama ,often shortened to
Vasco is a city in the state of Goa
on the west coast of India.
It is named after the Portuguese
explorer Vasco da Gama.
• Vasco da Gama's body was first buried at St. Francis
Church, which was located at Fort Kochi in the city
of Kochi, but his remains were returned to Portugal in
1539.
