•The earth consists of large landmasses and huge water bodies.
•The large landmasses are called continents. There are seven continents in the world.
•Huge bodies of salt water are called ocean. There are five oceans in the world.
Continents
•A very large area of land that consists of several countries is called a continent. There are seven
continents in the world. In order from largest to smallest; they are Asia, Africa, North America, South
America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia.
•Asia is the world’s largest continent and the most populated. Australia is the smallest continent.
Australia is not only a continent, but also a country!
•Continents are further divided into smaller parts called countries.
•Our country India is a part of the continent Asia.
Oceans
•A very large body of water is called an ocean. Oceans cover 72% of our planet. The five oceans of the
world are the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Southern Ocean and the Arctic
Ocean.
• The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean and the Arctic Ocean is the smallest ocean.
Learning Outcome : Children learnt about the shape of the Earth its atmosphere, the
landmasses and water bodies found on it.
