CONVERSION OF MONEY
Learning objectives:Students will learn to convert rupee into paise and vice versa.
Explanation
1 Rupee = 100 Paise
. Conversion of Rupees into Paise
NOTE:To convert rupees into paise, we multiply the amount in rupees by 100.
Example: convert 5 rupees into paise.
Solution: 1 rupee = 100 paise
Thus, 5 rupees = 5×100 = 500paise
• Conversion of Rupees and Paise into Paise
NOTE: To convert ‘rupees into paise’ we multiply the amount in rupees by 100 and add to it the
number of paise.
Example: convert 8 rupees 70 paise into paise
Solution: 1 rupee= 100 paise
8 rupees= 8 × 100 = 800paise
800paise + 70paise = 870paise
Thus, 8 rupees 70 paise=870paise
• Conversion of paise into rupees
NOTE: To convert paise into rupees we divide the amount in paise by 100.
Example: convert 400 paise into rupees
Solution: we know that
100 paise = 1rupee
Thus, 400 paise = 400 ÷ 100 = 4 rupees
