Indian Currency

Learning objectives: Students will learn to add paisa to make a rupee and expressing money in
               figure and words.

Symbol of rupee can be written as ₹.

Paisa is a smaller unit of money than rupee.

               100 paise = 1 rupee

There are two ways of writing money.

                   a) In words
                   b) In figures

               EXAMPLE: ₹ 10 . 50

It is written as ₹ 10 . 50 in figures.

It is written as 10 rupees 50 paise in words.

                                                                  ₹ 10 . 50

                                        Rupees Dot Paise

                   • The dot separates rupees from paise.
                   • Paise are always written in two digits.

                       For example:

                   • 50 paise is written ₹0.50 and 5 paise is written as ₹0.05.

                                 + =

               100 paise = 1 rupee

Learning outcome: Students are able to understand how to add paise to make a rupee and
expressing money in figure and words.
