Relation between Division and Multiplication

Learning Objective-The students will be able to understand the relation between division and
multiplication and the properties of division.

               Explanation:
Multiplication and division are opposite operations. For every multiplication fact, there can be two
               division facts.

               Examples:
                     a) Division fact: 6 x 8 =48, for this division fact there can be two multiplication facts.
               48÷6=8 and 48÷8=6

                     b) Division fact: 5 x 5 = 25, Here only one multiplication fact: 25 ÷ 5 =5

               Properties of Division

                   1) When a non- zero number is divided by 1, the quotient is the number itself.
                       Example: 9÷1 = 9
                   2) When a non- zero number is divided by itself, the quotient is one.
                       Example: 7÷7 = 1
                   3) When zero is divided by any non-zero number, the quotient is zero.
                       Example: 0÷7 = 0
                   4) Dividing any number by zero, has no meaning.
                       Example: 8÷ 0 = not possible

Learning Outcome: We will ensure that each and every child understands the relationship
               between division and multiplication.
