Solid Shapes

Learning Objective –Students will learn toname and identify some of the basic 3D shape

               (solid shapes)

                    • Solid shapes are three-dimensional.
                    • They have length, breadth and height.
                    • Solid shapes have faces, edges and corners.
                    • Surface of the solid shapes may be flat or curved.

                   • CUBE: A cube has 6 faces, 8 corners and 12 edges.
All six faces of a cube are equal

                   • CUBOID: A cuboid has 6 faces, 8 corners and 12 edges.
Opposite faces of a cuboid are equal.
 CYLINDER: A cylinder has one curved face and two flat faces.
Cylindrical objects have 3 faces and two edges.
                       They do not have vertices.
 CONE: A cone has a flat circular base and a curved surface.
It has 2 faces, 1 corner and 1 edge.

 SPHERE: A sphere is a round object with 1 face.
It doesn’t have any corner or edge.

Learning outcome: Students are able to name and identify some of the basic 3D shapes ( solid
               shapes)
