To subtract capacity, we write the number of l and ml in
separate columns. The ml must be written as 3 digit
numbers .
• Example: Subtract 9 l 148 ml from 14 l 375 ml
l ml Step-1 Subtract the millilitres first.
1 4 3 7 4 374 -148 =226
Write 226 ml under millilitres column
- 9 1 4 8
Step-2 Subtract the litres. 14 – 9 = 5
= 5 2 2 6
Write 5 l under litres column.
Thus, 14 l 375 ml - 9 l 148 ml = 5 l 226 ml
