P. 2
Measuring weight
Learning Objective– Students will be able to learn about measuring weight.
Explanation
Measuring weight (or mass)
Weight is a measure of how heavy or light something is. We use balance scales or weighing
scales to measure weight.
Weight of an object is measured in grams (g) and kilograms (kg).
We use grams to weigh lighter objects like packet of biscuit, packet of chips etc.
We use kilograms to weigh heavier objects like sack of wheat, bag full of rice or grain
The standard unit of measuring weight is Kilogram.
1 kg = 1000g
1 kg, 500 g, 250 g, 200 g, 100 g, 50 g, etc. are the different units for measuring the weight.
There are also the unit weights for measuring 5 kg, 10 kg, 20 kg, 50 kg
Making equal weights
Examples: 1kg = 500 g + 500 g or 2 x 500 g
= 250 g + 250 g + 250 g + 250 g or 4 x 250 g
500 g= 200 g + 200 g + 100 g
Learning Outcome– Students are able to learn about measuring weight.
