Learning objective: Students will be able to compare the ancient tools of measuring time
and compare them with modern clock and temperature and how its measured.
Measurement of Time
Time is the point when something happens or in done. In earlier days, sun dial, water clock
or sand clock was used to calculate the time of the day. Now, we use a clock or a watch to
know the time. Time is measured in hours, minutes and seconds.
Sixty seconds make a minute (1 minute=60 seconds), and sixty minutes make an hour (1
hour= 60 minutes). Twenty-four hours make a day (1day= 24 hours).
Calendar is used to look up days, weeks and months.
Measurement of Temperature
Temperature is the measure of how hot or cold a body or an object is. Temperature is
measured in degree Celsius (°C) and degree Fahrenheit (°F). A Thermometer is used to
measure the temperature of a body or an object. The normal body temperature of a human
body is 37°C or 98.6°F.
Learning outcome: Students learnt to compare the ancient tools of measuring time and
compare them with modern clock and temperature and how its measured.
