Learning objective: Students will be able to compare standard and non-standard tools of
measuring capacity.
Measurement of Capacity
Liquid is measured in vessels or containers. Therefore, Capacity or volume is the maximum
amount of liquid a vessel or container can hold. The standard unit of measuring capacity is
litre (L). Large amounts of liquid are measured in litres, while smaller amounts of liquid are
measured in millilitres (mL).
Thousand millilitres make a litre (1L= 1000mL).
Measuring cans and measuring cylinders are used to measure capacity.
Learning outcome: Students learnt to compare standard and non-standard tools of
measuring capacity.
