P. 2
Learning objective: Students should be able to know about the skeletal and muscular
systems and their functions.
Skeletal System and Muscular System
Skeletal System
Our body has many bones. They are very hard. All the bones in the human body join together
to form the skeleton or the Skeletal system. The skeletal system provides strength and rigidity
to our body. It provides shape and support to our body. It helps us to sit, move and stand and
also protects our internal organs. We have 206 bones in our body. A baby's body has about
300 bones at birth. These eventually fuse (grow together) to form the 206 bones as they grow
up.
Muscular System
A human body has more than 600 muscles. Muscles cover the bones in our body. All the
muscles in our body together forms the Muscular system. All movement in the body is
controlled by muscles. The muscles allow our bones to move by contracting and expanding.
Learning outcome: Students learnt about the skeletal and muscular systems and their
functions.
