Learning objective: Students will be able to know about the different types of beak
depending on the food they eat.
Beaks of birds
Just like all living beings, birds also eat food. We eat from our mouth, but they don’t have
teeth to chew the food like us. They use their beak to catch and eat food. Some birds eat
seeds, fruits and others eat flesh. They also use beak to build their nests. So, depending on
the type of food that birds eat, their beaks are shaped differently.
1. Curved beak 3. Broad and flat beak
Food: Nuts and hard fruits Food: Worms and small plants
Example: Parrot Example: Duck
2. Sharp and hooked beak 4. Strong and chisel shaped beak
Food: Flesh of prey Food: Insects from bark of trees
