Learning objective: Students will be able to know about the different types of soil.
TYPES OF SOIL
Depending upon the climatic conditions, environment and the amount of different
component present in the soil, there are mainly three types of soil - sandy, loamy and clayey.
1.SANDY – This type of soil has small particles of weathered rocks in it. The soil is granular
and dry in texture due to which the particles are easy to separate from one another. It is not
good for the growth of plants as it cannot hold water in it. Sandy soil is found in the beaches
and deserts.
2.LOAMY – This type of soil is a mixture of sand and clay. The particles are neither loosely
packed nor tightly packed and thus has a perfect space to hold both air and water. It is quite
rich in nutrients that supports the growth of plants in a better way. We can say it is crop
friendly.
3.CLAYEY – This soil has the finest particles that are tightly packed. It is very sticky and holds
a high amount of water. It is mostly used in making of pots and other clay decorative artefacts.
Clayey soil is found in river beds and on river banks.
Learning outcome: Students learnt about the different types of soil.
