Learning objective: Students will learn the importance of a house and its cleanliness.
FEATURES OF A GOOD HOUSE
We all need shelter to live. A house keeps us safe from harsh weather, wild animals, dust,
etc. building a good house is both art as well as science.
The special features of an ideal house are
❖ Ventilation: Proper flow of fresh air in and out of the house helps to get rid of
unwanted smell. For proper ventilation the house must have enough doors and
windows. Ventilation is very important as it prevents air pollutants which may affect
our health.
❖ Sunlight: Sunlight makes the house bright, warm and cheery. It disinfects the house
by killing germs and bacteria and hence protects us from diseases naturally.
❖ Sanitation: Sanitation means provision of clean drinking water and proper disposal
of sewage waste water from the house waste not properly managed can cause
health problems.
• Exhaust fan and chimney in the kitchen blows out hot air, smoke and cooking
smell.
• Garbage should be thrown into a dustbin. Always keep the dustbin covered
so that insects and flies do not sit on it.
• Floors must be swept and wiped using disinfectant.
• Furnitures must be dusted regularly.
• Bathrooms, washbasins and toilets must be cleaned.
• Doors and windows must be covered with wire mesh or netting to keep away
mosquitoes, flies and other insects.
Learning outcome: Students learnt the features of a house and its cleanliness.
