Effects of Wind and Rain on Weather
Effect of Rain: Clouds bring rain. It cools the Earth and the weather becomes pleasant.
However, too much rain can cause floods. Floods destroy property and crops. They can also
harm animals and even humans. But sometimes it does not rain enough. The crops dry up
and animals may die due to lack of food and water. Such a condition is called a drought.
Rain gauges are weather instruments used to measure the amount of rainfall.
Effect of Wind: Moving air is called wind. Wind can blow at different speeds. A gentle wind
is called a breeze. A breeze is very pleasant and makes us feel cool. Sometimes we see
strong winds accompanied by thunder and rain. This condition is called storm. Strong storms
can uproot trees and damage buildings. The speed of the wind can be measured using a tool
called an anemometer.
