Our Earth – Birth and shape of the Earth
The Earth was different from what it is today. It was formed from the clouds of dust and
gases. In the beginning, the Earth was very hot and it was surrounded by hot gases. It took
millions of years for it to cool down. The hot gases turned into clouds. These clouds caused
rains. The rainwater collected and formed oceans. Slowly, life began on Earth. It is believed
that life first appeared in water and then on land.
People earlier believed that the Earth was flat. Some adventurous sailors like Ferdinand
Magellan took off on a journey around the globe. They went on and on and reached the
same point from where they had started. Hence, it was proved that the Earth is round.
Learning Outcome: Students learnt about the birth and shape of the Earth.
