Learning Objective- Read and relate the story and its characters. Identify its moral
and describe its character.
Content- The story is about a kind stranger who was travelling to his brother’s
house who lived far away. The stranger was very tired and hungry during his
journey. He came across a village where he decided to stay for the night. But the
villagers closed their doors and windows on seeing the stranger. No one was
ready to offer him shelter and food. He came to know that the villagers were
frightened of him and there was shortage of food in that village. Then, he pulled
out his cauldron, filled it with water and built fire under it to boil the water. He
shouted loudly that he is going to prepare a very mouth watering stone soup and
he would share it with everyone. He picked a stone from his bag, said few magical
words and dropped it in the cauldron. Again, he shouted that addition of cabbage
will make it tastier. Meanwhile, the villagers were observing him from their
houses. One of the villagers brought him cabbage. Similarly, he wished for few
more vegetables and salt to make the soup tastier. One by one, the villagers
brought everything he wished for, out of hunger and curiosity. Finally, the soup
was ready and he shared it with everyone. The villagers enjoyed the healthy and
tasty soup. They happily offered him shelter to stay during the night. Next day,
when he was leaving, he was offered huge sum of money for the stone which he
refused. But he gave that stone to the youngest kid in the village and told him
that it was not the stone that did the magic but it was the small contribution of
every villager that made the soup so nice.
