LEARNING OBJECTIVE:Students will be able to differentiate between the four different types
  of sentences. Students will be able to write the four different types of sentences.


    TYPES OF SENTENCES

    A sentence is a group of words which has a meaning and contains a verb. A sentence

    always begins with a capital letter.

    I am in class 3.


    My mother cooks delicious food.


    The child asks: Father,where are we going?

    Father replies: We are going to the market.


    The first sentence is a question. The second sentence is a statement. Both begins with

    capital letters.

    There are mainly 4 types of sentences in English.


         Interrogative

         Declarative

         Exclamatory

         Imperative

    Sentences which ask something are called questions. A question ends with a question
    mark (?).They are also known as INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES.


    Are you going to school?

    What is your name?


    Sentences which say or state something are called statements. A statement ends with a

    full stop(.).They are also known as DECLARATIVE SENTENCES.

    I have to do my homework.


    We watch television together.


    Sentences which show strong feelings, emotions or excitement are called
    EXCLAMATORY SENTENCES.


    Wow! What a beautiful flower!

    Bravo! We have won!


    Sentences that express requests, commands or orders are called IMPERATIVE

    SENTENCES. They usually end with a full stop.

    Please give a glass of water.
