 First the digits are arranged in columns;

 6 9 = 6 tens + 9 ones

 - 2 6 = - 2 tens + 6 ones Difference of digit of one’s place = 9 – 6 = 3 ones)

Difference of digit of tens place = 6 – 2 = 4 tens

 = 4 tens + 3 ones

 = 43
