Example 4: Addition using expanded method in figures.

375+ 167= ?

By expanding the numbers;

375 = 300 + 70 + 5

+ 167 = 100 + 60 + 7

Sum = 400 + 130+ 12

= 400 + (100 + 30) + (10 + 2)

= 400 + (100 +40) + 2

= 500 + 40 + 2

= 542

Therefore, sum = 542
