Compare and arrange capacity:
Learning objective: Students will be able to identify the larger, smaller
capacity containers and arrange them according to their size from
smallest to greatest.
Capacity is the total amount of fluid that can be contained in a
container. It is the word we use when we are measuring liquids.
Different containers have different capacities.
One container may have a larger capacity than the other.
A bucket holds more liquid while a glass holds less quantity of liquid.
The vessels which are larger in size hold more liquid as compared to the
vessels which are smaller in size.
To compare the capacity of different containers by using non- standard
units and finding which container holds more water, we pour water from
a jug and a bottle into the same size glasses.
Example: The jug holds 8 glasses of water. This means the capacity of
this jug is 8 glasses. The bottle holds 5 glasses of water. This means the
capacity of the bottle is 5 glasses. We see that the jug can fill more
numbers of glasses than the bottle. It shows that the jug holds more
liquid than the bottle.
