Introduction to measuring weight (Standard units):
Learning objective: Students will be able to measure weights using
Standard measurements such as (Kilogram (kg), Gram (g) and Milligram
(mg)).
• Previously we were using marbles, stones and blocks to compare
weights. But that didn’t give the exact result. So, we need some
standard units to measure weights.
• Kilogram is the standard unit of weight. It is denoted by kg.
• Heavy weights such as watermelon, rice and cars are measured in kg.
• Light weight things like mango, apple and a ball are weighed in gram. It
is denoted by g.
• Very light weight things like feather, leaf and medicine tablets are
measured in milligram. It is denoted by mg.
• 1 Kilogram(kg) = 1000 grams(g)
• 1 gram (g) = 1000 milligrams(mg)
