Learning objective: The students will be able to identify and use the adverbs of
manner.
Adverbs of manner describe how something happens.
Example: The boy ran. If we ask “How did the boy run?" You might say:
The boy ran fast.
The boy ran slowly.
The boy ran quickly.
The boy ran carefully. Here, ran is the verb.
We already know that the word which modifies a verb is known as an Adverb.
Here fast, slowly, quickly, carefully are the adverbs.
They answer to the question “How”.
These are Adverbs of manner.
Adverbs of manner are usually formed from adjectives by adding –ly:
Bad-badly quiet – quietly sudden – suddenly
But sometimes there are changes in spelling:
easy>easily gentle>gently careful>carefully
