THE TIGER KING
KALKI
The Tiger King is a satire on the conceit of those in power. The king has been magical from his birth. His
arrogance takes him on a path of destruction of the tiger population. He is so power drunk that he
thinks to alter his destiny which was written long before. His subordinates are scared of him failed to
guide him.
The Prophecy and Miracle about the Tiger King:
.when he was born the astrologers foretold that he would be a warrior of warriors and hero of heroes,
but one day he would have to meet his death.
. At that moment a miracle took place. The ten days old infant began to speak and questioned the
astrologer to know the manner of his death.
.The chief astrologer told he would die due to a tiger.
The Prince’s Childhood and the Killing of the First Tiger:
.The king was brought up in a royal manner.
.drank the milk of an English cow
. was looked after by an English nanny, tutored in English
.and saw nothing but English films. Was crowned at the age of 20
. killed the first tiger and sent for the astrologer.
. the astrologer told he may kill ninety-nine tigers but the hundredth tiger would prove fatal.
The Tiger Hunt Begins:
The king was adamant to prove the prediction wrong and vowed to attend all other matters only after
killing hundred tigers.
A proclamation was issued to ban tiger hunting by anyone in the kingdom.
The king faced many dangers on his quest, but each time it was the king who won.
The maharaja comes in danger of losing his kingdom:
The king refused permission to a high ranking british officer to hunt tigers in Pratibandapuram.
He stood in danger of losing his kingdom. To pacify the anger of the officer he sent 50 diamond
rings to the officer’s wife shelling out three lakh rupees.
