SPECIAL OLYMPIC: were started by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister of
John F. Kennedy, the former president of USA , thought is that
,children with intellectual disabilities could be exceptional sports
person and they can realize their potential for growth and
development.
Special Olympic were held in july 1968 in Chicago. Around 1000
athletes from USA & Canada participate in one day events, which was
a Joints venture by Kennedy foundation and Chicago Park District.
In 1971 US Olympic Committee gave the ‘Special Olympics’ official
approval to use the name “Olympics”
France send the first athletes to participate this Olympics in 1970.
In 1972 ten nation sent their athletes to take part on it.
In the year 1986 United nations declared the games is :Special
Olympics”
In 1988 the special Olympics were officially organized by IOC, by 2003
7000 athletes from 150 nations participating in 18 disciplines .
