A- Development refers to progress or improvement in lifestyle.
Important aspects of development :
i. Different persons can have different development goals.
ii. What may be development for one may not be
development for the other.
It may even be destructive for the other. Example, opinion on building
of dam by an industrialist and farmers, whose land would be
submerged in water.
Q- “Different persons can have different developmental goals” support 1 3
this statement with an example.
A- Development goals may be conflicting. Development for one
may not be development for another or may cause harm to
another.
For e.g. ;- A girl expects as much freedom and opportunity as her

may not like this. Similarly, to get more electricity, industrialists may
want more dams. But this may submerge the land and disrupt the lives

may prefer small check dams or tanks to irrigate their lands.

(b) Apart from income people prefer to work where they get good
facilities.
(c) A safe and secure environment may allow more women to take
up a variety of jobs or run a business.
13 Q-“Increase in income alone is not sufficient for the development of 3 5
nation”. Examine the statement with three suitable points.
A-(i) An individual would like to work at a place where he feels safety.
(ii)Equal treatment, freedom and respect of life is also desirable.
(iii)The quality of life also depends on non material things.
14 Q-“For development, people look at a mix of goals”. Support the 3 6
statement with three suitable examples.
A- It is true that if women are engaged in paid work, their dignity in the
house hold and society increases. So dignity is an important goal.
(a) However, it is also the case that if there is respect for women
