                  Lesson Notes- 1

SUBTOPIC : Standard form and forming quadratic equation from word
               problem.

               Quadratic Polynomial
A polynomial, whose degree is 2, is called a quadratic polynomial. It is in the form of
                         2
               p(x) = ax + bx + c, where a, b and c are real numbers and a ≠ 0

               Quadratic Equation
When we equate the quadratic polynomial to zero then it is called a Quadratic Equation
                         2
i.e. if ax + bx + c = 0 then it is known as Quadratic Equation.

The standard form of a Quadratic Equation

                                           2
‘a’ is the coefficient of x . It is called the quadratic coefficient.
‘b’ is the coefficient of x. It is called the linear coefficient.
                  ‘c’ is the constant term.

Quadratic equations arise in several situations in the world around us and in different
               fields of Mathematics.

               Let us consider some examples.

Example 1 : Represent the following situation in the form of quadratic equation.
