Now, eliminate the variable "y"in (2) and (3) as given below and find the value of "x".

Step 4 :

Substitute 202 for x in (1) to get the value of y.

(2) --------> 202 + y = 548

Subtract 202 from both sides.

y = 346

So, the number of adults tickets sold is 202 and the number of kids tickets sold is 346.

Example: (Graphical Method)
10 students of class X took part in a quiz. If the number of boys is 4 more than the
number of girls. Find the number of boys and girls who took part in the quiz graphically.
Solution: Let the number of boys be x
and the number of girls be y
According to the given conditions
x + y = 10 (i)
x = 4 + y (ii)
Taking the points on line (i)
x = 10 - y
x 10 5 6
y 0 5 4

Taking the points on line (ii)
x = 4 + y
x 4 5 6
y 0 1 2
