                                             Phonics - /sh/ and /ch/ words




                Learning objective: Students will be able to identify and read words with
                                                   /sh/ and /ch/ sound.





               Explanation:

                     When the consonant ‘s’ and consonant ‘h’ come together, they


                                            make /sh/ sound.


                     The combined sound of these two letters are different from their
                      individual sounds.


                                            For eg. ship, shop, shampoo, shepherd, sheet, shell


                                                          fish, dish, flush, rush, push, bush

                     When the consonant ‘c’ and consonant ‘h’ come together, they

                      make /ch/ sound.


                                            For eg. cheese, cheetah, cherry, church, chick, chariot

                                                          such, much, lunch, brunch, French, teach, peach


                     /sh/ and /ch/ sounds are known as diagraphs


               Learning outcome: Students can identify, pronounce and read words with
               /sh/ and /ch/ sound.
