Phonics - /sh/ and /ch/ words
Learning objective: Students will be able to identify and read words with
/sh/ and /ch/ sound.
Explanation:
When the consonant ‘s’ and consonant ‘h’ come together, they
make /sh/ sound.
The combined sound of these two letters are different from their
individual sounds.
For eg. ship, shop, shampoo, shepherd, sheet, shell
fish, dish, flush, rush, push, bush
When the consonant ‘c’ and consonant ‘h’ come together, they
make /ch/ sound.
For eg. cheese, cheetah, cherry, church, chick, chariot
such, much, lunch, brunch, French, teach, peach
/sh/ and /ch/ sounds are known as diagraphs
Learning outcome: Students can identify, pronounce and read words with
/sh/ and /ch/ sound.
