Long /a/ silent /e/

Look at the words in the

box. In all the words like

‘cake’ ‘lane’ and so on we

have the vowel ‘a’ followed

by a consonant and end with

vowel ‘e’. Here ‘a’ takes its

own name and ‘e’ remains

silent. So we say it as /c/-/a/-

/k/= cake.
