P. 5
We use simple past tense for finished actions or situations that
began and ended before now.
While reading a story or narrating a story or an incident, we use
past tense as it has already occurred or happened.
The verbs in the simple past tense are used in sentences when we
talk about actions that happened in the past.
Example—He fell down on the ground.
I ate mangoes.
To change a verb from present tense to past tense e mostly
add ‘ed’ at the end of the word
Ex: play – played
Jump – jumped
Clap – clapped
Jog – jogged
Hop - hopped
In clap and jog and similar other words where the word has a
vowel before the ending letter, we write double last letters.
Some verbs change completely
Ex: sleep – slept
eat – ate
drink – drank
give – gave
Some verbs don’t change when used in present or past tense.
Ex: cut , hurt, put etc
