                    ➢  It means the land where jana set its foot and settled.
                    ➢  Rajas of janapadas are those who performed sacrifices.
                    ➢  Example- Hastinapur near Meerut.
                    ➢  People used to live in huts, grow variety of seeds and make earthen pots.
                 SUB TOPIC- MAHAJANAPADAS

                    ➢  When janapadas became larger and more important, it came to be known
                        as mahajanapadas.
                    ➢  It was covered by huge fortified walls to protect the people from foreign
                        attacks.
                    ➢  Also, army was maintained.
                 SUB TOPIC- TAXES

                    ➢  Various taxes were collected by the people to let people avail the facilities.
                    ➢  Taxes on crops, craftsmen, herders, import goods, hunters and gatherers.
