Inequality and Discrimination:(from pg 17-19)
Discrimination occurs when people are treated unequally and are not given
due respect.
In India, people are discriminated on the basis of their caste, class, gender,
religion, wealth and occupation.
Tribals, poor people, some religious groups and even particular regions also
experience discrimination.
On being discriminated against:
The prime reason for discrimination in our country is the caste system.
In India caste rules worked to the advantage of upper caste and lower castes
always faced discrimination.
The people of the lower caste use the word ‘dalit’. They are considered to
be untouchables.
