History
• Ancient Origins: First described by Mozi (China, 5th century BCE) and
Aristotle (Greece).
• Alhazen (Ibn al-Haytham): In the 11th century, he explained the working in
his Book of Optics.
• Birth of Photography: Used as a foundation for early photographic
techniques in the 19th century.
Applications
• Early photography of still objects.
• Solargraphy – tracks the sun’s movement across days or seasons.
• Demonstrating light behaviour in physics classrooms.
• Used by artists for composition framing.

Concept Extension:-
• Camera Obscura: Large-scale version for artistic and observational use.
• Modern cameras evolved from this idea, replacing the screen with film or
a sensor and using lenses to focus.
• Understanding Human Eye: Works similarly with light entering through
the pupil and forming an image on the retina.
