 Characteristics of Chemical Changes:

 One or more new substances are formed.

 There isa change in the chemical composition and chemical properties of the given
              substance (reactant).

 The new substance formed (product) formed, has a totally different composition and

properties than that of the original substance.
 They are permanent and usually cannot be reversed.

 A permanent change in colour may take place.

 A lot of energy (heat) is absorbed or released.
 Light and sound may be produced in a chemical change. E.g., bursting of firecrackers.

 Remember, the appearance of matter as well as the chemical identity changes during a

           chemical change.
