Characteristics of Chemical Changes:
One or more new substances are formed.
There isa change in the chemical composition and chemical properties of the given
substance (reactant).
The new substance formed (product) formed, has a totally different composition and
properties than that of the original substance.
They are permanent and usually cannot be reversed.
A permanent change in colour may take place.
A lot of energy (heat) is absorbed or released.
Light and sound may be produced in a chemical change. E.g., bursting of firecrackers.
Remember, the appearance of matter as well as the chemical identity changes during a
chemical change.
