SEPARATION OF SUBSTANCES FROM MIXTURES:

Mixtures can be separated into their different components. It is necessary to separate
mixtures into their components for the following reasons:

(i) To remove impurities or harmful components from a mixture: This is done to
remove small stones or solid impurities from rice or pulses.
(ii) To obtain useful components: It is used to obtain useful components like
petrol, diesel, kerosene etc. From crude oil.
(iii) To obtain pure components: It is used to obtain pure metals from their ores.
