Vitamins:
• Vitamins are needed by the body in very small amounts to keep us fit, healthy
and protect us from various diseases.
• Green leafy vegetables and fruits are the major sources of vitamins and minerals.
They are also found in milk, meat, fish and eggs.
• If our body doesn’t get sufficient amount of certain vitamins and minerals for a
prolonged duration of time, we might suffer from certain diseases called
deficiency diseases.
• Since the vitamins and minerals protect the body from such diseases, they are
called protective food.
• Vitamins B and C are water soluble vitamins.
• Vitamins A, D, E and K are fat soluble.
Minerals:
Minerals too are required in very small amounts to keep our bodies fit and healthy.

1. Iron Green leafy Important for the formation of
vegetables, apple, haemoglobin in our blood.
