               Fats

Fats are energy giving food. A gram of fat releases twice the energy released by the

same quantity of carbohydrates or proteins.

               Food rich in fats

 Fats are composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.
 Fats form a layer under the skin and provide us warmth.

 Fatty tissues around certain organs, such as eyes and kidneys, offer

protection to these organs by acting as shock absorbers.
 Eating too much of fat-rich food can make us overweight and eventually lead

                       to obesity.

 Consumption of excess fat can cause deposition of a chemical called
cholesterol in our arteries and make the flow of blood in arteries difficult and

may even lead to heart attack and other heart diseases.
                   Sources of fats:

 Fats are obtained from both animal and plant sources.

 Fats from animal sources are butter, ghee, meat and eggs.

 Fats from plant sources are vegetable oils (groundnut oil, coconut oil etc.)
                          and nuts.
