Page 2 - Lesson Note 8
P. 2
Write 8 in the quotient just above the dividend as shown in the solution.
Write 184 below 189 and subtract.
189 – 184 = 5
Step 2:
Bring down the next digit, i.e. 0 from the dividend to make 50.
Now, 23 x 2 = 46 and 23 x 3 = 69
46<50 while 69>50.
So, we will take 46.
Write 2 in the quotient just next to 8 as shown in the solution.
Write 36 below 50 and subtract.
50 – 46 = 4.
Step 3:
Bring down the next digit, i.e. 9 from the dividend to make 49.
Now, 23 x 2 = 46 and 23 x 3 = 69
46<49 while 69>49.
So, we will take 46.
Write 2 in the quotient just next to 2 as shown in the solution.
Write 46 below 49 and subtract.
49 – 46 = 3.
Step 4:
Bring down the next digit, i.e. 8 from the dividend to make 38.
Now, 23 x 1 = 23 and 23 x 2 = 46
23<38 while 46>38.
So, we will take 23.
Write 1 in the quotient just next to 2 as shown in the solution.
Write 23 below 38 and subtract.
38 – 23 = 15.
Step 5:
Bring down the next digit, i.e. 5 from the dividend to make 155.
Now, 23 x 6 = 138 and 23 x 7 = 161
138<155 while 161>155.
So, we will take 138.
Write 6 in the quotient just next to 1 as shown in the solution.
Write 138 below 155 and subtract.
155 – 138 = 17.
Step 6:
Bring down the next digit, i.e. 2 from the dividend to make 172.
Now, 23 x 7 = 161 and 23 x 8 = 184
161<172 while 184>172.
So, we will take 161.
Write 7 in the quotient just next to 6 as shown in the solution.
Write 161 below 172 and subtract.
