"It is not proper to rely solely on luck and remain idle. Therefore,

leaving behind all laziness and dependence on fate, one must

               dedicate oneself to hard work.
With this thought, the king summoned an assembly of scholars. He

addressed them and said, 'O wise men, hear my words. Is there
anyone among you capable of giving a new life — through moral and

ethical teachings — to my sons who have neglected the scriptures and

               strayed from the righteous path?'"
"At that very moment, a learned scholar named Vishnu Sharma —

well-versed in the entire body of ethics like Brihaspati himself — rose

and said, 'O King, since your sons are born into a noble lineage, I am
confident I can teach them the principles of ethics. Within six months,

I shall make them proficient in moral wisdom.'
The king, deeply pleased, replied with great respect, 'Then what doubt

can there be? Proceed without hesitation.'"
"Even a simple creeper, when adorned with flowers, reaches the

heads of great men; and even a mere stone, when placed among

deities, is revered like the gods themselves."
"Therefore, you are indeed capable of imparting ethical teachings to

my sons." Saying this, the king respectfully placed the hands of his

sons into the hands of Vishnu Sharma.
Vishnu Sharma then began to educate the young princes through

engaging and instructive stories featuring birds and animals. This
remarkable collection of moral tales later became widely known as the

               Hitopadesha."
