(iii) Species that no longer exist anywhere on the Earth are called ………………. species.

                         (a) (i) Red algae (ii) Species (iii) Endangered
                         (b) (i) Endangered species (ii) Biodiversity (iii) Extinct

                         (d) (i) Polluted Zones (ii) Biodiversity (iii) Endangered
                  5. Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve includes X national park and two wildlife sanctuaries - Y
and Z. Select the option which correctly identifies X, Y and Z.
                         (a) X-Satpura, Y- Bori, Z-Pachmarhi
                         (b) X-Bori, Y- Satpura, Z-Pachmarhi
                         (c) X-Pachmarhi, Y- Satpura, Z-Bori

                  6. The Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan once had a healthy population of tigers.
However, due to poaching and habitat destruction, the number of tigers decreased
drastically, leading to their extinction from the area in the early 2000s. Later,
conservation efforts were taken to reintroduce tigers. Forest officials increased
surveillance, restricted human activities, and created awareness among local
                         communities.
                            a) Why did tigers disappear from the Sariska Reserve?
                            b) What measures were taken for their reintroduction?
                            c) Mention one way local communities can contribute to conservation.

                  7. -Read the paragraph and answer the questions:

Forests are called the “lungs of the Earth.” They absorb carbon dioxide and release
oxygen, maintaining the balance of gases in the atmosphere. Forests also prevent soil
erosion and floods and are home to a variety of organisms. Human activities such as
deforestation are causing major damage to these ecosystems.
                            a) Why are forests referred to as the lungs of the Earth?
                            b) List two environmental problems caused by deforestation.
                            c) Suggest one step to reduce deforestation.

                  8. Species is a group of population which are capable of interbreeding. This means that
the members of a species can reproduce fertile offspring
only with the members of their own species and not with
members of other species. Endemic species are those
species of plants and animals which are found exclusively in
a particular area. A particular type of animal or plant may be
endemic to a zone, a state or a country. Tiger is one of the
many species which are slowly disappearing from our
forests. Project Tiger was launched by the government to
protect the tigers in the country. But, the Satpura Tiger
Reserve is unique in the sense that a significant increase in the population of tigers have
                         been seen here.
                            a) Define species? Mention its characteristics.
                            b) What do you understand by ‘project tiger’?
                            c) Give two examples of endemic animals present in Satpura Nationa Park?

                  9. Rina visited a nearby forest and observed deforestation and littering. She also noticed
that a few animal species seemed to have decreased in number compared to previous
