(the prepositions of place)
1. Used to express ‘going to’ or ‘being in a place’.
à – city Il va/travaille à Mumbai.
au – masculine singular country Il va /travaille au
Danemark.
aux – masculine/feminine plural country Il va/vit aux Antilles.
en – feminine country/continent/provinces/masculine singular country.
beginning with a vowel Il va/habite en Inde.
Il va/habite en Iran.
2. Used to express ‘coming from or belonging to’ a place.
de/d’ – city Il vient/est de Mumbai.
du – masculine country Il vient/est du Danemark.
de – feminine country/continents/provinces Il vient/est de France.
d’ – masculine /feminine country beginning with vowel
Il vient/est d’Inde.
Il vient/est d’Iran.
des – masculine /feminine plural country Il vient/est des Etats-Unis.
