Expansion of Solids – Metal Ball and Ring (Demonstration)
Materials: Metal ball and ring apparatus (or alternate: metal lid & bottle)
Instructions:
• Heat the metal ball and try to pass it through the ring.
• It doesn't fit when heated but fits when cool.
Effect Demonstrated: Heat causes expansion in solids.
Hot Air Balloon (Simple Model)
Materials: Balloon, bottle, hot water, cold water
Instructions:
• Place a balloon over the mouth of an empty
bottle.
• Put the bottle in hot water → balloon inflates.
• Place it in cold water → balloon deflates.
Effect Demonstrated: Air expands on heating,
contracts on cooling.
