• Santorio Santorio, an Italian doctor in the early 1600s, added a scale to the
thermoscope, making it the first true thermometer.
• In 1714, Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit, a German scientist, invented the mercury
thermometer and introduced the Fahrenheit scale.
• In 1742, Anders Celsius, a Swedish scientist, developed the Celsius scale,
where water freezes at 0°C and boils at 100°C.
