CHAPTER – Economic activities around us
         Introduction:

“Economic Activities Around Us" helps us understand how different types of work and businesses
affect our daily lives. Economic activities include all the things people do to earn money and provide

         goods and services.

         Classification of Economic Activities :
 The economic activities with similar characteristics can be grouped or classified into broader

                groups called economic sectors.
 We can classify economic activities based on their functions as primary, secondary or tertiary.

All these activities are interdependent to each other.
         Primary Sector :

 Under primary sector economic activities, people are directly dependent on nature to produce

                goods.
 The group of activities that extract raw materials directly from nature such as farming, fishing,

forestry, etc. are included in the primary sector.

 For example, the cultivation of grains and vegetables from agricultural farms, collection of
wood from the forests, extraction of coal from mines, fish from fisheries, eggs from poultry

farms, etc. are all primary sector economic activities.
         Secondary Sector :

 Secondary sector activities are a group of activities that process outputs derived from the
primary sector into products for sale or consumption.

 The secondary sector activities include the construction of buildings, roads, etc. and providing

utilities like water, electricity, gas and other such necessities.
 It also includes the manufacturing of products in factories and production units to process raw

materials from the primary sector into some other form that can be further sold or consumed.
 For example, the processing of grains to make flour in mills, processing of tea leaves and

                manufacturing of furniture from wood.
