• Malwa Plateau: Located in central India, known for its volcanic origin and fertile
soil.
• Bastar Plateau: Situated in Chhattisgarh, rich in forest resources and minerals.
PLAINS:
• Plains are large stretches of flat land.
• Some plains are extremely level while others may be slightly rolling and undulating.
• Height not more than 300 metres above sea level.
• Floodplains are formed by rivers carrying stones, sand and silt called sediments
from by eroding mountains and deposit to make very fertile soil good for all types of
crops.
• In Asia, the plains are formed mostly by Ganga, Brahmaputra in India and
Yangtze in China.
River plains were the cradles of many great Civilizations. About ¼ th of the
population of India lives in Ganga plains. Fishing and agriculture are the main
occupation of the people.
Deserts: these are large and dry expanses with least rainfall. They are of two types.
Hot(Sahara) and cold(Gobi) deserts.
