                                    CH-1 Timeline and the Sources of History
                                                         NOTES

               Sub topic 1- How do we learn about the past?

               Important Terms:
                     History- The study of the human past
                     Fossils- Impression of footprints, or parts of plants or animals that are
                       found preserved within layers of soil or rocks.


               History is “an unending dialogue between the present and the past … between
               the society of today and the society of yesterday….


                    To understand what life was like in ancient times we need to follow
                       different people like historian and many people who study Earth’s history.

                    Geologist- They study Earth’s physical features such as soil, stones, hills,
                       mountains, rivers, seas and oceans.

                    Paleontologists- They study plants, animals and human remains from
                       millions of years ago in the form of fossils.

                    Anthropologist- They study human societies and cultures from the oldest
                       times to the present.

                    Archaeologists - They study the past by digging remains left by people,
                       plants and animals. These remains include tools, pots, beads, figurines,

                       toys, bones, teeth, burnt grains, and parts of houses or bricks.
