P. 2
7. A chef made a dish using tomatoes, onions, chicken, and spices.
a) Identify the plant-based ingredients in the
dish.
b) What is the animal-based ingredient?
c) If someone is a vegetarian, which
ingredient should be excluded?
8. ‘All food sources come directly or indirectly from plants.’ Do you agree with this statement?
Provide reasons for your answer.
9.
A food chain describes how different living things in an ecosystem get their food. It shows how
energy is passed from one organism to another. Plants, at the bottom of the chain, make their
own food through photosynthesis. Animals that eat these plants are called herbivores. Then,
other animals eat those herbivores, and they are called carnivores.
Explain the relationship between plants and animals in the food chain, giving examples
10. Pihu’s family follows a vegetarian diet, her friend Rajesh enjoys eating chicken and fish,
while their classmate Meera avoids all animal products, including milk and eggs. Based
on this information, answer the following question:
i. Classify each person’s diet as vegan/vegetarian/non vegetarian
ii. Explain the key differences between vegetarians, non-vegetarians, and vegans.
11. In nature, animals exhibit diverse feeding habits.
Herbivores, like cows and deer, consume only
plant materials. Carnivores, such as lions and
tigers, feed exclusively on other animals.
Omnivores, including humans and bears, eat
both plants and animals. Scavengers, like
vultures and hyenas, consume the remains of
dead animals, aiding in environmental
cleanliness. Decomposers, such as fungi and bacteria, break down dead plants and
animals, returning nutrients to the soil. Parasites, like lice and tapeworms, live on or
inside other organisms, deriving nutrition at the host's expense.
a) Identify two examples of decomposers mentioned in the passage.
b) Explain the role of scavengers in the environment as described in the passage.
c) If a new animal is discovered that eats both plants and other animals, how would
you classify it?
d) Differentiate between the feeding habits of parasites and decomposers as
outlined in the passage.
