LP 1.4-Exo and Endoskeleton
Learning Objective- Students will learn about endo and exo skeleton
The bones in our body join together to form a strong framework that supports our body from
the inside. Skeleton is divided into two types: Exoskeleton and Endoskeleton
SKELETON
EXOSKELETON ENDOSKELETON
An exoskeleton is a hard covering that supports and protects the bodies of some types of
animals. The word exoskeleton means “outside skeleton.” Many invertebrates, or animals
without backbones, have exoskeletons. Example: grasshopper, snail
An endoskeleton is a structure that holds an animal from inside. An endoskeleton allows the
body to move and gives the body structure and shape. The word endoskeleton means “inside
skeleton.” It is mostly found in vertebrates. An example of an endoskeleton is the skeleton
inside a human body.
